Cogito, ergo atheos svm

So I've been thinking about this since around October, but I've finally made up my mind to start a Nontheism or Atheism or Free-thought group at THS. I know at least a handful of people that would be somewhat interested in joining, which is a major plus.

One thing that's been bugging me lately is my parents. I asked them for a subscription to Freethought Today, a newspaper printed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Their rationales for not agreeing include; my non-belief being just a "phase", which they thoroughly hold as fact; the possibility of jobs and schools refusing my admission because of my atheism, which holds no ground because of non-discrimination laws; their own faith, as they don't want any heretical or blasphemous texts in the house.

Ugh. Whatever.

Don't people piss you off? It's stupid tolerance levels are about the same as they were in England in the.. 1600s or whatever. Can't we just grow up and believe not everyones gonna fit in the same religous mold as SOME people?
(sorry if that made no sense.. i'm tired too)

I don't think that you actually have to deny the existence of any deity by not believing. You can be as hard as rock in the knowledge that some kind of deities are, in fact, and truly exist, while you are not obliged to have faith in them.

Actually I don't quite believe in atheism, but I am not religious at the same time. God and gods are. So am I. And the rest of the world. Why should we bother each other. - that's a bit rough, but you can imagine the full of it alongside the thoughts above.

England was like that in the 1600s? Wow, I didn't know that. I would've used the Inquisition or Witch Trials as my example, but something that recent is shocking to hear.

And Nessy, that's a cool opinion
